In the lower secondary schools, nearly one student in two never tells their teacher that they use artificial intelligence. Seven in ten learned it on their own, by trying things out.
These are two of the findings that emerge from 48,973 responses, collected between April and June 2026 during the first census carried out by the MIASEDU National Network in Italian schools.
Behind every number there is a person who chose to stop and tell us how they experience AI in their school.
Today the census results are open to everyone. You can explore them one group at a time: by age, by year of study, by school level and by region.

Come leggere questi dati
How to read these data
- Only people who chose to take part have responded, and more than four in ten responses come from Campania.
- The numbers describe the habits, training and perceptions of those who answered. Even with a very large volume of data, we do not claim to capture a picture of Italian schools as a whole.
- Many questions are self-assessments, and an association between two data points does not prove that one causes the other.
